Introducing: Antisocial Dads Club

We’re so excited to finally share something we’ve wanted to create for a long time…

Antisocial Dads Club is a brand-new monthly group for dads and their children at The Picturedrome. This new dads group in Macclesfield is part of Smile’s commitment to providing more targeted support for fathers across Cheshire East.

Where?

  • Last Saturday of each month, launching on Saturday 28th Feb
  • 9:30-11:30am
  • The Picturedrome Chestergate, Macclesfield SK11 6DU

Why a dads-only group?

While all of Smile’s services are open to mums, dads, and non-birthing partners, we know there’s a real gap in dad-specific support across Cheshire East. Many existing parenting groups are weekday sessions geared towards mums, which doesn’t always work for dads.

Becoming a parent is a huge life adjustment for everyone, and 1 in 10 new dads experience mental illness around this time. But support specifically for dads is limited in our area.

Antisocial Dads Club gives local fathers the chance to meet other dads in a relaxed, informal space.

Who can attend?

  • Dads and their children aged 0-5 (Similiar to our family session, we have extended the age for this weekend group)
  • You do not need to be currently accessing other Smile services.
  • It’s a drop-in session, no referral or booking. Just turn up!

What to expect

This informal meet-up takes place in one of Macclesfield’s most exciting venues: The Picturedrome, with tables reserved near the children’s play area.

Sessions are:

  • Volunteer-led– we’ve recruited two fantastic male volunteers and welcome more dads who’d like to get involved.
  • Simple and fun- activities include Lego, Duplo, and crafts.
  • Family-friendly- plenty of food and drink options are available to purchase from independent vendors at the venue.

This is a low-pressure, friendly space for dads to relax, connect, and enjoy time with their children.

Why the name “Antisocial Dads Club”

The name is playful and tongue-in-cheek. We know joining a new group can feel daunting, especially for dads who may not know anyone. The Antisocial Dads Club aims to be informal, approachable, and a space where dads feel comfortable showing up as they are.

Join our pilot

After years of wanting to create something specifically for fathers, we’re incredibly proud to launch this six-month pilot in Macclesfield. Over the next few months, we’ll learn, adapt, and shape how we continue to support new dads in Cheshire East. Because dads deserve connection too!
