Cheshire business networkers go for the burn to support local charity

A group of 10 local business people from networking forum, BNI, put themselves through their paces at Ultimate Fitness gym, raising £1,250 to support perinatal mental health charity, Smile Group.

Feeling the burn – participants from the sponsored calorie burn for Smile.

BNI member, Keith Hadaway, and Utility Warehouse Partner, was moved by the work of Smile, as shared by fellow member and charity Trustee Anna Maddox. True to BNI’s ‘Givers Gain’ philosophy, he was inspired to encourage business colleagues to ‘go for the burn’ by hitting the gym at Ultimate Fitness Warrington on 4th November to raise funds.

Smile Group supports hundreds of families across Cheshire East with weekly peer support groups, talk therapy and 1-1 support across Macclesfield, Congleton, Sandbach and Nantwich. It has been a critical service in the community throughout the pandemic, which has prompted new and expectant parents to feel isolated and disconnected from their communities.

Adam Corlett was the PT for the sponsored calorie burn, with a challenge to oversee the 45-minute gym session, which brough both seasoned gym-goers and exercise novices together. He encouraged the 10 participants to work out safely and, collectively they burned around 5,000 calories.

Keith Hadaway, Utility Warehouse Partner, said: “We were all delighted with the fundraising amount achieved for Smile – smashing our original goal of £1,000.  It was great to come together to take on the ‘burn’ challenge as a team and to support a fellow BNI member and very worthwhile cause.”

Anna Maddox, Trustee of Smile Group, added: “It was brilliant to be part of the sponsored calorie burn, which was an inspired way to get our hearts pumping and have some fun while supporting Smile’s valuable work. We are so grateful to our colleagues at BNI for their passion and for being so game!”

“Thanks also to Keith as well as Adam and Mike Wood for offering us use of their gym, Ultimate Fitness.”

BNI is the largest referral organisation in the world, with Cheshire East having more than 200 members, passing more than £12million in business over the year.
