Help to ‘Raise a Smile’ via our new regular giving programme

Smile supported more parents than ever in the last year with a blend of tailored services and is inviting you to join our Raise a Smile regular giving programme to help us to reach more families.

While demand for our services continues to increase, the stark reality is that the rising cost of living and pressure on our small team has a significant impact on our cost-base. We’re incredibly proud of our service but we’re honest too about the reality of growing a charity and how challenging it is to ensure it remains sustainable.

Smile is free to parents at the point of access (though donations are always welcomed!). We are able to meet the needs of families who cannot access thresholds for specialist perinatal support, and look to us for support within the community. While our services are aimed at parents experiencing mild-moderate emotional wellbeing challenges, the reality is that we’re holding families with complex needs in our care.

We know that at least 20% of new and expectant mums and 10% of dads experience emotional wellbeing challenges in the perinatal period. Smile supported more than 350 families last year alone across Cheshire, with more than 1,800 contact points. We recognise that perinatal mental health is a family issue and the ripple effect is felt by the wider family network.

Beneficiaries of our service often ask how they might give back in affordable ways, so Raise a Smile is a way of providing a monthly payment (maybe even just the equivalent of a cup of coffee), to support the sustainability of our service in a pretty tough climate.

We offer a range of services, carefully developed around the needs of families, to complement statutory care, including; weekly peer support groups across four locations, 1-1 talk therapy, home visits, 1-1 support and monthly family sessions.

A monthly donation translates to tangible support, so here’s how your contribution can have an impact on families’ lives:

  • £3 helps to offer a hot drink and snacks at our weekly peer support groups
  • £5 provides weekly family activities and holistic therapy taster sessions
  • £10 will help to support our 1-1 home visits programme
  • £25 pays for a weekly session with a counsellor
