Meet Louise – Smile’s Community Fundraiser

Louise Henderson joined Smile recently as a Community Fundraiser to optimise local funding opportunities and build valuable relationships across our patches in Macclesfield, Congleton, Sandbach and Nantwich. Here are her thoughts on her new role and being part of the Smile team:

  • When did you start working with Smile?

I started working for Smile Group in December 2021.

  • What attracted you to the role?

I spotted the opportunity on Smile’s website and was instantly drawn to the charity from my past experiences of being a new mum. After reading the details of the role, I felt that Smile would be a fantastic charity to be involved with. In my previous role, I was a fundraiser for the school I worked in and thought it would be a wonderful role to fulfil for a charity.

  • What does your role involve?

Creating fundraising events, networking with local businesses, completing grants and bid applications and using social media as a tool for fundraising and raising awareness of our charity. I’m also responsible for creating an annual fundraising strategy to look at different income streams to support Smile’s sustainability.

  • What do you love most about you work with Smile?

Meeting new people and creating links to help support each other, as well as raising awareness and fundraising for a fantastic cause!

  • Where are the opportunities for Smile in terms of local connections and fundraising?

Smile is part of several networking platforms to raise awareness and consider support in terms of fundraising. We are also looking at exploring regular giving and a range of fundraising streams, with some fun events in the pipeline. It’s also about raising awareness of the support we provide local families during a difficult stage of their lives.

  • Why are community-based charities like Smile so important for local families?

Speaking from my own experiences with perinatal mental health, these charities are so important as you can attend groups and meet people going through a similar experience. The groups are led by our skilled Wellbeing Practitioners who have lived experience, so can relate. We create a relaxed, friendly environment where you can share any issues you may have and feel completely supported throughout.

  • Anything else to add?

This role has allowed me to challenge myself by taking a new career direction. My confidence has grown and it’s great to set and meet achievable goals. Smile is a fantastic charity to work for and I’m proud to be part of its journey.
