Vacancies for three new Trustees at Smile

Smile Group is looking for three new Trustees to join its Board and support the ongoing responsible growth of the charity.

Overview

Smile Group is a registered charity supporting new and expectant parents with their mental health across Cheshire East. In addition to our direct delivery locally, the charity is part of a national partnership (the Hearts and Minds Partnership), funded by the National Lottery. This partnership brings grassroots perinatal mental health services across the UK together to share learning and provide a coherent voice for the sector.

Smile Group was established in 2011 by two mums, Natalie Nuttall and Ruth Williams, who had personal experience of perinatal mental illness and saw a glaring gap in community support.

The charity runs weekly peer support groups out of Children’s Centres in Macclesfield, Congleton, Sandbach and Nantwich, as well as 1-1 talk therapy, a home visits programme and monthly family sessions. Smile Group is supported by national, regional and local funding and is cited in the Royal College of GPs’ Perinatal Mental Health Toolkit of Best Practice.

Smile Group has an active and productive board of Trustees who provide support and scrutiny for for the paid staff in the organisation. Due to the upcoming retirement of some of our longer standing Board members we are looking to recruit two or three new Trustees.

Skills and experience

We conduct regular reviews of the skill set of the board and monitor our diversity. As a result of this review, we are particularly interested in hearing from people with the following skills or experience:

  • People with recent (last 2-3 years) lived experience of perinatal mental health challenges. We are particularly keen for people who have used Smile’s services to join us on the Board;
  • Business growth, particularly from start up to established organisation.

Smile Group is committed to continuing to make diversity, equity and inclusion a part of what we do. We are working to ensure that we are representative of the population that we serve in Cheshire East and an organization that creates a sense of belonging for everyone.
